Softball Recap: Duarte Gets the Win

While Duarte's win against Garey wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Falcons had just enough and edged out the Vikings 11-9. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Allison Michels spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Rosemarie Ortiz and Alyssa Encarnacion did most of the damage at the plate: Ortiz went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Encarnacion got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Ortiz a new career-high. Valeria Hinajosa was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

Duarte hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

Duarte's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Garey, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Duarte will challenge rival Azusa at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Garey is set to face off against their familiar foe Nogales at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
