Baseball Recap: Groveton Takes a Loss

Groveton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-2. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shelbyville Dragons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 5-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Shelbyville, their victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Shelbyville's part, Easton Jones and Jaxon Lambright made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jones pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Lambright pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. At bat, Jones went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Lambright went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave Lambright a new career-high.

In other batting news, Shelbyville let Tate Obregon and Jaxon Raymond run wild. Obregon went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI, while Raymond got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylon Williams, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Coming up, Groveton will challenge New Waverly at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shelbyville, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-1 victory against Overton on the 21st.
