Basketball Recap: Zakharia Rutledge and Taleah Turner Secure Win for George Jenkins

George Jenkins won the last time they faced Lake Region and things went their way on Friday too. The George Jenkins Eagles walked away with a 55-47 win over the Lake Region Thunder. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Leading George Jenkins to victory were Taleah Turner and Zakharia Rutledge. Turner dropped a double-double on 18 points and 20 rebounds, while Rutledge went 8 of 11 en route to 19 points along with six boards and four steals. That's the most points Turner has posted since back in December of 2024. Taylor Gibson was another key player, putting up six points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists.

George Jenkins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

George Jenkins has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Lake Region, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

George Jenkins wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 50-24 victory against Wharton on the 1st. As for Lake Region, they will challenge Bishop Moore on Thursday.
