Gunn has gone 9-1 against Palo Alto recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. Gunn will square off against Palo Alto at 4:00 p.m. Gunn has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Gunn is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Los Gatos, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Titans couldn't push the score so high this time.
Gunn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makena Smith, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palo Alto). They were the clear victors by a 26-3 margin over Monta Vista on Friday. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 8.3 runs per game.
Kira Tzeng was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Sunday Ahn and Kensie Pao did most of the damage at the plate: Ahn scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Pao scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Ahn a new career-high. Emily Stell was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Palo Alto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .705. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Palo Alto has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. Gunn now has a losing record of 5-6.
Gunn took their win against Palo Alto in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gunn since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
