Softball Recap: American Leadership Academy Comes Up Short

American Leadership Academy extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-17-1 in the process. They fell 4-0 to the Providence Athletic Club Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-4 back in March.

Ellie Beers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 14 Ks.

At the plate, American Leadership Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brennan Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Providence Athletic Club, the victory (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 19-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

On Providence Athletic Club's side, the result came thanks to Kaylin Otey's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks. Otey has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

Coming up, American Leadership Academy will be playing at home against Heathwood Hall Episcopal at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Highlanders have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Providence Athletic Club, they will head out to face off against Calhoun Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
