Basketball Game Preview: McNeil Mavericks vs. Vandegrift Vipers

The McNeil Mavericks will head out to square off against the Vandegrift Vipers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. McNeil is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

On Wednesday, McNeil had to suffer through a 94-48 loss at the hands of Stony Point. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 858th, while the Tigers are ranked 19th).

Meanwhile, Vandegrift posted their closest win since February 2, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Vista Ridge out 32-30. The score was all tied up 10-10 at the break, but the Vipers were the better team in the second half.

McNeil's defeat dropped their record down to 5-23. As for Vandegrift, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 19-9.

McNeil came up short against Vandegrift when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 57-47. Can McNeil avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
