Football Recap: Montwood Takes a Loss

Montwood extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were outmatched by the El Dorado Aztecs and fell 59-29. If the Rams were looking for revenge after losing 49-28 to the Aztecs when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Montwood's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Miguel Esqueda, who picked up 140 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Damian Briano, who threw for 326 yards and four TDs. Esqueda showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 57 yards. Montwood also got a significant boost from Gene Palmer, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 100 yards.

As for El Dorado, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 44.3 points this season.

Ryan Estrada went supernova, rushing for 338 yards and three scores while picking up 14.7 yards per carry. Those 338 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Jadarius Sanders also helped out as he racked up 125 receiving yards.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montwood will face off against Midland at 7:30 p.m. on the 19th. As for El Dorado, they will challenge Eastwood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,304 yards in their previous games.
