Softball Recap: Eastlake Extends Winning Streak to Four

Eastlake had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They walked away with a 16-11 victory over the Coronado Thunderbirds. 16 seems to be a good number for the Falcons as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Charley Solis was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Samantha Ponce was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-5.

Solis wasn't the only one making solid contact: Eastlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The Falcons are a perfect 13-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Eastlake's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Coronado, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-19 record this season.

Eastlake will take on Montwood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Coronado, they will face off against Franklin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Thunderbirds are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
