Basketball Game Preview: Mecklenburg County Phoenix vs. Jefferson Forest Cavaliers

The Mecklenburg County Phoenix will head out to square off against the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Mecklenburg County is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering George Washington just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They were outmatched by the Eagles and fell 96-45. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Eagles are ranked 21st).

Meanwhile, Jefferson Forest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 54-40 fall against Rustburg.

Mecklenburg County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Jefferson Forest, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

Mecklenburg County strolled past Jefferson Forest when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 74-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mecklenburg County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
