Basketball Game Preview: Godby Cougars vs. Madison County Cowboys

The Godby Cougars will head out to take on the Madison County Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Godby is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.

Godby is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Ribault just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to the Trojans 58-53.

Despite the loss, Godby got top-tier performance from Kenijah Clayton, who went 9 of 14 on her way to 27 points. The dominant performance gave Clayton a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Cornelius, who posted six points in addition to 12 boards and seven steals.

Even though they lost, Godby smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Madison County's strategy against Suwannee on Saturday. Madison County blew past Suwannee 72-48. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.

Madison County now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Godby, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 8-4.

Godby was able to grind out a solid win over Madison County when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 62-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Godby since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
