Volleyball Recap: Edwardsville's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

After a string of six wins, Edwardsville's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of the Belleville East Lancers by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in April.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Edwardsville sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-19.

Edwardsville lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Nicholas Paschall, who had 18 assists and five digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Marsh, who had 18 assists.

Belleville East can attribute much of their success to Andrew Neutzling, who had 11 digs and three assists. Those three assists gave Neutzling a new career-high.

Edwardsville's defeat dropped their record down to 22-12. As for Belleville East, their win was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-7.

Looking ahead, Edwardsville will take on O'Fallon at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Belleville East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
