Baseball Game Preview: Magdalena Steers vs. Grady Bronchos

For the first time this season, Magdalena will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Grady Bronchos at 2:00 p.m. One thing working in Magdalena's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five games.

On Saturday, Magdalena got the win against Zuni by a conclusive 15-5. The win continues a trend for the Steers in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won seven in a row.

The team relied heavily on Javen Tafoya, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ayden Herschbach, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Magdalena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Grady's offense. They came up short against Eunice two weeks ago, falling 8-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Bronchos' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Magdalena pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Grady, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Magdalena skirted past Grady 3-2 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Steers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bronchos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
