Softball Recap: Lexington Drops Season-High Score on West

Lexington extended their postseason success on Saturday against West. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 17-16 victory over the Trojans. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Taylor Akin was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 7.2 innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Akin was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Aubrie Mathews and Maya Bell did most of the damage at the plate: Mathews went 3-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Bell went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Avery Rodriguez, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Lexington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Lexington is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for West, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-19-1.

Lexington has already played their next match (against Central Heights), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. West does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
