The Pine Crest Panthers will face off against the West Boca Raton Bulls at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pine Crest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Pine Crest took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Fort Lauderdale 11-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the match before.
Bryant Barkan looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He also put up three hits, which were his first of the season.
On the hitting side, Cooper Obst and Troy Ceritelli did most of the damage at the plate: Obst went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles, while Ceritelli scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Micah Billig, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Pine Crest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Lauderdale only posted a batting average of .211.
Meanwhile, West Boca Raton came up short against Saint Andrew's on Tuesday and fell 9-4. The Bulls have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Tayegan Briskey was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. Christian Fallacara-Saunders was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Pine Crest's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for West Boca Raton, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
West Boca Raton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pine Crest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. It's a different story for West Boca Raton, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Pine Crest's hitters?
Pine Crest skirted past West Boca Raton 5-4 when the teams last played on March 10th. Will Pine Crest repeat their success, or does West Boca Raton has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
