Basketball Game Preview: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. Westwood Redhawks

Lugoff-Elgin is 0-10 against Westwood since January of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Lugoff-Elgin Demons will face off against the Westwood Redhawks at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Lugoff-Elgin is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Ridge View and fell 75-20. The Demons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-11.

Meanwhile, Westwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 64-48 fall against Spring Valley. The Redhawks were down 55-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Lugoff-Elgin will have to keep a close watch on Aneya Britt and Amari Alexander, a pair of players who had a big impact on Westwood's prior game. Britt dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards, while Alexander posted nine points. That was a full 45.8% of Westwood's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Westwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Lugoff-Elgin's defeat dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Westwood, their loss dropped their record down to 9-14.

Lugoff-Elgin came up short against Westwood in their previous meeting back in January, falling 57-48. Can Lugoff-Elgin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
