Football Recap: Taylor Comes Up Short

After flying high against Eastside Early College last Thursday, Taylor came back down to earth. The Ducks were outmatched by the LBJ Austin Jaguars and fell 49-14. The Ducks haven't had much luck with the Jaguars recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Despite the loss, Taylor still got an impressive performance from Eric Walker Ii, who rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown. The Ducks also got a significant boost from Johnny Guzman, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 89 yards.

LBJ Austin's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marquis Murry II, who rushed for 207 yards and one score while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Those 207 rushing yards gave Murry II a new career-high. Jayelen House was another key player, throwing for 201 yards and five TDs on only 17 passes.

Taylor's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 4-5. As for LBJ Austin, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Taylor is set to challenge their familiar foe Travis at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, LBJ Austin will square off against rival Eastside Early College at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Murry II and Khrisshawn Bryant.
