Baseball Recap: Leesville Has No Trouble Against Pickering

Leesville waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Pickering Red Devils as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The contest marked the Wampus Cats' most dominant win of the season so far.

Bryce Cunningham made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Creek Smith was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Hunter Belton, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Leesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Leesville back to even at 3-3-1. As for Pickering, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leesville will head out to take on Converse at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Leesville's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for Pickering, they will challenge Avoyelles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
