Softball Recap: St. Joseph's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Saturday just wasn't the day for St. Joseph's offense. They fell just short of the Gloucester City Lions by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

Elaina Portalatin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, St. Joseph saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alaina Dorsey, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

St. Joseph's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5. As for Gloucester City, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

St. Joseph will be playing at home against Hammonton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Gloucester City, they will venture away from home to square off against Cherokee at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
