Basketball Recap: Medford Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Medford unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They were beaten by the Lakeland Thunderbirds 65-32. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 41st).

Kristina Ouimette was her usual excellent self, going 13 of 26 en route to 29 points and four steals for Lakeland. That makes it 17 consecutive games in which Ouimette has scored at least a third of Lakeland's points. Saylor Timmerman was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 14 boards.

Medford's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-9. As for Lakeland, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4.

Medford will welcome Mosinee at 7:15 p.m. on January 31st. Lakeland has already played their next game, a 73-32 victory against Xavier on the 25th.
