The Charlestown Pirates are taking a road trip to square off against the Providence Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Charlestown will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Clarksville on Thursday. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Generals. The Pirates have beaten the Generals the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Generals has come to flipping the script.

The team relied heavily on Christian Grayson, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cooper Lynch, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Charlestown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clarksville only posted an OBP of .353.
Meanwhile, Providence entered their tilt with Madison on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Cubs with a sharp 9-2 victory.
Gavin Jackson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Jackson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Cole Huett was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Kalen Sipes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Providence pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Charlestown, their record now sits at 11-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Charlestown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Providence struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Charlestown suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Providence in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
