Softball Game Preview: Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles vs. Centerville Bulldogs

The Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Centerville Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cambridge City Lincoln has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cambridge City Lincoln came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-0 to Hagerstown. The Golden Eagles have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, while Centerville put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Union County. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Patriots. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Madi Yount made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Day, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Hannah Beaman, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Centerville has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Cambridge City Lincoln couldn't quite finish off Centerville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
