The Raritan Rockets will face off against the Lacey Township Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Raritan comes in on seven and Lacey Township on three.
On Thursday, Raritan was able to grind out a solid victory over Manalapan, taking the game 5-2.
The team relied heavily on Janelle Clausi, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lacey Township). They put the hurt on Point Pleasant Beach with a sharp 17-5 win on Thursday. The Lions not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024 (when they won 15-1).
Bella Byk was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Lacey Township got a massive performance out of Nicole Scheper, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-3. Sophia Capone was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Lacey Township hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.
Lacey Township's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Raritan, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Raritan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Lacey Township struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
