Mulberry dropped their record down to 12-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the McKeel Academy Wildcats, falling 9-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-4 back in February.
Mulberry saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kensingten Danforth, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Lylah Jones, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
As for McKeel Academy, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.
On McKeel Academy's side, Emma Skipper was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Skipper was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, McKeel Academy let Brianna Shelley and Isabelle Morrell run wild. Shelley went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Morrell went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Morrell has posted since back in April of 2024. Chloe Lanier was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Mulberry has already played their next match, a 10-0 defeat against George Jenkins on the 15th. As for McKeel Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 16-2 loss against Bartow on the 15th.
