Baseball Recap: Lyon County Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Lyon County, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Caldwell County Tigers a 6-0 shutout on Friday. The Lyons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.

Peyton Williams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Korben Lucas was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Turner Hurst, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Lyon County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Lyon County's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Caldwell County, they moved to 10-2 with that defeat, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lyon County will challenge Apollo at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lyons 3.9, the Eagles 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Caldwell County, they will square off against Madisonville-North Hopkins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
