The Benton Zephyrs will challenge the Shullsburg Miners at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Benton has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Shullsburg will arrive with four straight wins.
Benton came up short against Belmont on Thursday, falling 3-0.
While Benton had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 19 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Shullsburg made easy work of Cassville on Thursday and carried off a 3-0 victory.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Shullsburg was: they took every set by at least 13 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-12, 25-10.
Shullsburg's win came from a few key players Benton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Isabelle Wiegel, who had 12 digs and one assist. She has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last ten times she's played. Meadow Wiegel also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Shullsburg was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 12 aces in three consecutive contests.
Shullsburg's win bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Benton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-19.
