Baseball Game Preview: York Dukes vs. Proviso West Panthers

For the second straight game, York will face off against Proviso West. The Dukes will challenge the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. York's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Proviso West's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

York took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Proviso West 8-2. With that victory, the Dukes brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Riggins Kohl tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Luke Pieczynski was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Charlie Martin also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

York kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

York pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Proviso West, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. York has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game.
