Softball Recap: Orem Comes Up Short

Orem dropped their record down to 14-10 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Payson Lions by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since March 15th.

Kate Allred made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

As for Payson, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

On Payson's side, Peyton Staheli spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Staheli has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Payson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mahaila Buys, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Anna Marvin was another, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Orem will venture away from home to square off against Mountain View at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Payson, they will square off against Union at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
