Plenty of players across the country put up gaudier numbers than Dan McCarthy of Cardinal Mooney (Ohio) over the weekend, but perhaps none came through in the clutch quite like the Notre Dame-bound senior quarterback.

The Cardinals - No. 6 in last week's MaxPreps National Rankings - trailed Akron's St. Vincent-St. Mary (LeBron James' alma mater) 17-0 heading into the fourth quarter of a Friday night clash between two unbeaten Ohio powers.

That's when McCarthy came to the rescue. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound signal caller threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another in the final 12 minutes to help give Cardinal Mooney an improbable, 21-17 comeback victory. The go-ahead score came on a 23-yard pass to Mike Gemma with 2:43 remaining in the contest.

McCarthy finished the game with 122 yards on the ground on 18 carries and 118 more through air. Cardinal Mooney, Ohio's defending Division IV champions, advanced to 8-0 on the season.
