Softball Game Preview: Lynbrook Owls vs. Freeport Red Devils

The Lynbrook Owls will take on the Freeport Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lynbrook is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

On Tuesday, Lynbrook had just enough and edged out South Side 11-9. That's two games straight that the Owls have won by exactly two runs.

Lynbrook got a big performance out of Emma Mylan, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Mylan has posted since back in April of 2024. Kelsey Roth was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Lynbrook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive games.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Freeport and Baldwin, and Baldwin kept the tradition alive. The Red Devils came up short against the Bruins on April 5th, falling 17-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Red Devils in their meetings with the Bruins: they've now lost four in a row.

Lynbrook's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.75 runs across that stretch. As for Freeport, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Lynbrook took their win against Freeport in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 17-3 score. Do the Owls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
