Softball Recap: French Settlement Drops Season-High Score on Independence

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask French Settlement). They blew past the Independence Tigers 16-1 on Thursday. With that victory, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Jillian Cullen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since March 3rd. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Stella Allison was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, five RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Jacelyn Babin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs.

French Settlement always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for French Settlement and bumps their season record up to 7-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Independence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. French Settlement will challenge Parkview Baptist at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. French Settlement's pitchers better be ready for this one: Parkview Baptist has averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Independence, they will square off against Maurepas at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Maurepas has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.76 runs per game on average), something Independence will no doubt try to take advantage of.
