Basketball Recap: Z John Williams Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Z John Williams unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took an 84-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nelson Island Islanders on Friday. The Hawks just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row dating back to last season.

Z John Williams' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Warren Kaganak, who posted 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexie Amik, who had 16 points.

The win was the fifth in a row for Nelson Island, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.

Z John Williams has already played their next contest, a 68-50 defeat against Ket'acik and Aapalluk Memorial on the 24th. As for Nelson Island, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-42 victory against Chief Paul Memorial on the 24th.
