Baseball Game Preview: Cardinal Newman Cardinals vs. Airport Eagles

The Cardinal Newman Cardinals will challenge the Airport Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.

Cardinal Newman fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Aiken on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Fighting Green Hornets by a score of 5-3.

Meanwhile, Airport fell victim to Fox Creek and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Predators by a score of 2-0. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.

Airport saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Jeffcoat, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Cardinal Newman's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Airport, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 1-1-1.

Cardinal Newman came up short against Airport in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can Cardinal Newman avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
