Baseball Game Preview: Brazos Cougars vs. Almeta Crawford Chargers

The Brazos Cougars will head out to take on the Almeta Crawford Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Brazos had taken East Bernard down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Cougars came up short against the Brahmas, falling 18-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered against the Brahmas since April 1, 2022.

Reese Cullen and Luke Polasek did some serious damage despite the final result: Cullen went 2-for-3 with two runs, while Polasek got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Almeta Crawford had already won 14 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 15 on Thursday. They blew past the Tigers 11-5. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

TJ Weaver looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alec Baldauf was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Shane Rourick was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Almeta Crawford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

Almeta Crawford pushed their record up to 22-3-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Brazos, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-10.
