Recap: Hawken Hawks vs. Wickliffe Blue Devils

While the Hawken Hawks couldn't quite beat the Wickliffe Blue Devils on Tuesday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 22-point loss they were dealt last Saturday. Hawken fell just short of Wickliffe by a score of 45-42. Hawken was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Wickliffe apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2015.

Hawken lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sarah Liu, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Sophia Cicerini, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.

Hawken was without their leading scorer, Julia Scales, in Tuesday's game. With Scales sidelined, Hawken had to make some changes to the lineup. And. Lynette Zuzindlak made the most of the opportunity, scoring five points. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Hawken has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Wickliffe, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

Hawken will head out on the road to square off against Lutheran West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hawken has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Lutheran West will arrive with three straight wins. As for Wickliffe, they will be playing at home against John F. Kennedy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wickliffe is coming into the match with eight straight victories at home, meaning John F. Kennedy will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
