Basketball Recap: Cowan Blackhawks vs. Monroe Central Golden Bears
Cowan lost against Monroe Central back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cowan Blackhawks were dealt a 58-17 loss at the hands of the Monroe Central Golden Bears. While losing is never fun, the Blackhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 157th).

Cowan's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Savannah Hall, who posted five points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals. Hall is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Skylar Airson also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.
It was another big night for Abe Ervin, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine steals for Monroe Central. The dominant performance gave Ervin a new career-high in steals. Addy Puckett was another key player, putting up five points along with ten boards and three steals.
Cowan dropped their record down to 3-15 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Monroe Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Cowan has already played their next matchup, a 54-31 defeat against Knightstown on the 25th. As for Monroe Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-37 loss against Union County on the 25th.
