Baseball Preview: Dublin Gaels vs. Irvington Vikings
The Dublin Gaels will be playing at home against the Irvington Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Dublin took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Dougherty Valley out 5-4.
Desi Lopez tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't pitched less than five innings in five consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Brendan Moddelmog was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Phelps, who scored two runs while getting on base in all two of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, while Irvington put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Newark Memorial. Irvington skirted past Newark Memorial 2-0.
Not much got past Bijan Bozorg-Chami, who gave up just three hits to keep Newark Memorial off the board.
At the plate, Brayden Jaksa was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ayush Sadekar, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI.
Dublin's victory bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Irvington, their win bumped their record up to 8-13.
