Basketball Recap: Versailles Takes a Loss

After flying high against New Knoxville last Thursday, Versailles came back down to earth. The Versailles Tigers were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 54-53 to the Crestview Knights. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Crestview got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ellie Kline out in front who went 7 for 17 en route to 24 points and six assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Kline has scored at least a third of Crestview's points. Another player making a difference was Kaci Gregory, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 15 points.

Versailles' defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for Crestview, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 17-3.

Versailles and Crestview should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Versailles (ranked 121st) will meet St. John's (ranked 672nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Versailles will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Similarly, Crestview will square off against Shawnee at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 333 places (62 vs. 395).
