Basketball Preview: Jenkintown Drakes vs. Lehigh Valley Academy Jaguars
Having just played yesterday, the Jenkintown Drakes will get right back to it and host the Lehigh Valley Academy Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Jenkintown pushed their score all the way to 61 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 78-61 to Delaware County Christian. While losing is never fun, Jenkintown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 441st, while the Knights are ranked 166th).
Despite the loss, Jenkintown had strong showings from Desmond Trail, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Tommy Walsh, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trail has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Lehigh Valley Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They were the victim of a rough 68-44 defeat at the hands of Renaissance Academy.
Despite the defeat, Lehigh Valley Academy had strong showings from Ziyon Wilkins, who scored 13 points, and Joell McNeil, who scored 12 points.
Jenkintown has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for Lehigh Valley Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Jenkintown have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Lehigh Valley Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 1.5 rebounds per game. Given Jenkintown's sizable advantage in that area, the Jaguars will need to find a way to close that gap. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
