Jamaury Taylor continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 16 points along with seven boards and six steals. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Matthews, who had eight points and six boards.
Triton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games dating back to last season.
While Smithfield-Selma didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They managed a 62-57 win over North Johnston on Tuesday.
Smithfield-Selma's win came from a few key players Triton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Johnavon Cox, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 18 points and five rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 56% in the last seven games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Shi'Quavis Benton, who went 5-for-6 en route to 16 points and three steals.
Triton's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Smithfield-Selma, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Triton has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34 boards per game. However, it's not like Smithfield-Selma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 20.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
