Baseball Game Preview: Clairemont Chieftains vs. San Diego Cavers

For the second straight game, Clairemont will face off against San Diego. The Chieftains will square off against the Cavers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clairemont has six straight victories, San Diego has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Clairemont made easy work of San Diego and carried off an 11-1 win. The Chieftains might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Diego Matsumoto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Matsumoto was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Jackson Cleary looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Colton Daudet, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Nate Kelly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Clairemont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Clairemont pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for San Diego, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-18-1.
