Douglas County falls despite strong effort from Sofia Baldessari

The Douglas County Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 41-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chaparral. While losing is never fun, Douglas County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Chaparral is ranked 19th).

When it comes to explaining why Douglas County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sofia Baldessari. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 48.6% of Douglas County's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Delaney Whitaker was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

Leading Chaparral to victory were Lauren Thompson and Reagan Lentell. Thompson scored 12 points along with six rebounds, while Lentell dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Lentell has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Monroe, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.

Douglas County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Chaparral, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.

Douglas County will head out on the road to take on Castle View at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Chaparral, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Legend at 5:30 p.m. Legend has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 200 points over their last three games.
