Basketball Recap: Ord Takes a Loss

Ord lost against Cozad back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ord Chanticleers took a 76-57 bruising from the Cozad Haymakers. While losing is never fun, the Chanticleers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Haymakers are ranked 29th).

When it comes to explaining why Ord lost, don't look at Elijah Pollard. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 12 on his way to 23 points. Those 23 points gave Pollard a new career-high. Garret Severance was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Cozad's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Noah Shoemaker, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Shoemaker, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 17 points along with five assists and three steals.

Ord's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-6. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Cozad, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Ord will look to defend their home court on Friday against Gibbon at 7:45 p.m. As for Cozad, they will head out to take on Ogallala at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Ogallala's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
