Recap: Washington County Golden Hawks vs. Strom Thurmond Rebels
On Thursday, Washington County was able to grind out a solid win over Strom Thurmond, taking the game 48-36. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Washington County.
Washington County found their leader in underclassman Jade Kitchens, who scored 23 points along with three steals. Kitchens has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamia Thomas, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds.
Katlyn Chinn and Kinley French certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Chinn scored 20 points, while French scored 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Washington County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Strom Thurmond, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.
Washington County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Washington-Wilkes at 1:45 p.m. on December 29th. Strom Thurmond will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Lincoln County at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 455th in Georgia, while Strom Thurmond is ranked 145th in South Carolina).
