Basketball Game Preview: Monroe Golden Tornadoes vs. Gilmer Bobcats

The Monroe Golden Tornadoes will take on the Gilmer Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Gilmer will be up against a hot Monroe team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Monroe took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 68-33 win over Dougherty. The Golden Tornadoes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 25 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monroe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nehemiah Tinch, who posted 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those eight boards gave Tinch a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorenzo Still, who went 5-for-6 to rack up 17 points.

Meanwhile, Gilmer fought the good fight in their overtime game against LaFayette on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Ramblers by a score of 59-56.

Monroe will need to focus on slowing down Keegen Bryant, one of several Gilmer players who made an impact when they last played. He went 7-for-16 en route to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Jd Taylor was another key player, putting up 16 points and five boards.

Gilmer now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Monroe, their victory bumped their record up to 17-9.

Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's matchup: Monroe has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 40.5% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Gilmer, though, as they've only made 26.3% of their three-pointers this season.
