Recap: Madison Cubs vs. Richmond Red Devils

The Madison Cubs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 54-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Richmond. While losing is never fun, Madison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Richmond is ranked 18th).

When it comes to explaining why Madison lost, one person who can't be blamed is Quincy Reynolds. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was ?scar Gonzalez, who scored six points.

Richmond's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braiden Hogg, who scored 20 points. That's the first time this season that Hogg scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cedric Horton, who scored 16 points.

Madison bumped their record down to 4-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Richmond, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 16-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Madison and Rushville will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Rushville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday. As for Richmond, they will be playing at home against New Palestine at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Palestine has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 564 points over their last eight matchups.
