Basketball Recap: Buena Vista Falls Despite Big Games from Noah Bearss and Julian Lopez-Olsen

Buena Vista has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a hard 58-40 fall against the Salida Spartans on Tuesday. If the Demons were looking for revenge after losing 62-34 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Julian Lopez-Olsen and Noah Bearss certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Lopez-Olsen posted 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Bearss had eight points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Bearss a new career-high in steals. Landon Pace was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, Buena Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Buena Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Salida, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.

Coming up, Buena Vista will challenge Lamar at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Buena Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season. As for Salida, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Simla at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Simla will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Salida surely won't give up without a fight.
