Softball Game Preview: Garrett Railroaders vs. Heritage Patriots

The Garrett Railroaders will take on the Heritage Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Garrett 4, Heritage 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Garrett's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past South Adams 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Railroaders have posted since April 12th.

The result came thanks to Ashlee Vanderbosch's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Garrett saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Grindstaff, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Heritage has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.5 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They came up short against Norwell, falling 14-3.

The win made it two in a row for Garrett and bumps their season record up to 15-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Garrett suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Heritage when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Railroaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
