Basketball Recap: Cerro Gordo/Bement Comes Up Short

Cerro Gordo/Bement was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 66-29 defeat at the hands of the Clinton Maroons. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 617th, while the Maroons are ranked 167th).

Cerro Gordo/Bement's loss dropped their record down to 6-21. As for Clinton, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Cerro Gordo/Bement will challenge Central A & M on Saturday. As for Clinton, they will face off against St. Teresa at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Clinton is on a seven-game streak of home wins, St. Teresa a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
