Baseball Game Preview: Macomb Bombers vs. Astoria/VIT Rebels

Macomb is a perfect 3-0 against Astoria/VIT since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Bombers will welcome the Rebels at 4:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Macomb's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Astoria/VIT has been banged up by 15 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

On Saturday, Macomb earned a 6-3 win over Havana. The Bombers haven't had any issues with the Ducks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Jack Beal spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has become a key player for Macomb: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Isaac Leinbach was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Astoria/VIT didn't have quite enough to beat Midwest Central on Friday and fell 2-1.

Astoria/VIT saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colby Martin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Westin Chenoweth also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Macomb's win bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Astoria/VIT, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.

Astoria/VIT's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Macomb hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. It's a different story for Astoria/VIT, though, as they've only averaged .149. Will they be able to contain Macomb's hitters?

Macomb took their victory against Astoria/VIT in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. Do the Bombers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
