Thornton Academy won the last time they faced Westbrook and things went their way on Monday too. The Trojans put the hurt on the Blue Blazes with a sharp 12-5 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Sophia Bogardus made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Liv Marshall looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Emma Barnes was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Miya Mcintosh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Thornton Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Westbrook, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.
Looking ahead, Thornton Academy will face off against Massabesic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westbrook does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
